Cowgirls Win Second Straight, 4-1

The Cowgirls (3-5, 0-2) picked up the doubles point in their second consecutive match. At the No. 2 position, sophomore Lauren Simmons and freshman Jessica Collins picked up the 8-1 victory.
The freshmen tandem of of Iryna Tkachenko and Jana Kubicikova gave OSU the early team lead with an 8-3 victory over Northridge's top doubles team. Due to time constraints, the No. 3 doubles match was not finished.
“It really helps a team when you are able to take the lead going into singles play,” head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski said. “Strong doubles play allowed us to be more relaxed in singles. It is important to win the doubles point to be successful.”
The Cowgirls extended the lead when Simmons 6-2, 6-3 straight set victory over Yasuyo Hashimoto at the No. 4 position. CSUN broke up the Cowgirl shutout bid at the fifth slot where Kanykey Koichumanova defeated Collins, 6-1, 6-2.
Junior Zana Masnic added OSU's third team point by downing Yuyu Myinttun at the No. 3 slot in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Tkachenko clinched the match by downing Silvia Gutierrez at the top singles position, 6-1, 6-3.
Kubicikova had match point before play was called due to the fourth team point.
“We received solid play from all of our individuals this weekend,” Lubicz-Majewski said. “This tournament will help us gain confidence for our upcoming matches.”
The Cowgirls will try to extend their win streak next Saturday when they face Texas A&M in College Station.
