Cowgirl Softball Falls To BYU
February 13, 2005 | Cowgirl Softball
The Cougars scored two in the top of the second but the Cowgirls tied the game in the bottom of the frame. Tara Jeffery got the rally started with a single to right field and Jennie Killman followed with a double. Jeffery later scored on a passed ball and Killman crossed home plate on a base hit from Ashlyn Watson.
From the third inning on it was all BYU as the Cougars regained the lead with a run in the third and built a four-run cushion in the fourth inning on a three-run bomb from Ianeta Lei. The Cougars extended their lead with a second three-run shot in the fifth when Lauren Watson-Perry laced a long ball just inside the foul pole in right field to give the Cougars a 9-2 advantage.
The final homer of the day came in the sixth, a two-run shot from Lei, her second of the game. The Cowgirls were unable to score in the bottom of the frame and the game was called due to the mercy rule.
Jessica Hoppock took the loss for the Cowgirls, allowing six runs on five hits, three walks and three strikeouts in 3.2 innings. Randi Cook tossed 1.1 innings, allowing three runs off two hits, two walks and one strikeout. Kristen Neil closed out the game, allowing three runs off four hits.
