Cowgirl Softball Inks Five Players to National Letters of Intent
November 16, 2005 | Cowgirl Softball
Emily Blackburn, Katelyn Bright, Anna Whiddon, Samantha Heinlein and Candace Handley will all join Oklahoma State in the fall of 2006.
Blackburn, Bright and Whiddon all play summer ball for the Texas Eclipse coached by Ken Glass. Blackburn is a utility player that can play both corner infield positions and catcher. Blackburn will bring a lot of power to the lineup.
Bright is a high school teammate of Blackburn at Kingwood High School. She plays catcher and outfield and hit a robust .404 with the Eclipse.
Whiddon is a pitcher out of Huntington, Texas. Whiddon will join the pitching rotation and will be an immediate impact for the Cowgirls.
Samantha Heinlein comes to OSU via Edmond Memorial High School. Heinlein is a solid defensive catcher and will look to contribute early.
“These three high school players will be fine additions to our lineup, they all have very good bats and are good defensive players,” Rebenar said.
Candace Handley comes to OSU from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. The Broken Arrow native will join the pitching rotation as well.
“I think both pitchers will be an immediate impact to our staff,” Rebenar said. “The freshman might be a ways away because she lacks the experience, Candace Handley brings some experience to the table and falls into that junior class. These two players add a lot of contrast to what we currently have.
“We look forward to a great recruiting class. I think we did really well and have one the best classes in the country.”
