Cowboys Gear Up for Big 12 Championships
October 28, 2005 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
The Cowboys will be led by junior Joseph Gray who has proven himself as one of the top runners in the conference this year.
“Joe is a great runner,” said Cowboy Assistant Coach Dave Smith. “He has proven, especially in the last few races, that he is our top guy.”
Also running for the Pokes will be senior Sean McCabe, junior Mike Devenport, sophomores David Pomies and David Jankowski, along with freshmen Ryan Birkholz, Ryan Vail, Matt Barnes-Smith and Alejandro Ruiz.
Four teams enter the meet nationally ranked: No. 3 Colorado, No. 9 Texas, No. 13 Kansas, and No. 25 Oklahoma State. Colorado has won every conference meet since the Big 12 was formed 10 years ago and they are heavily favored to win it again this year.
Baylor will host the meet making it the 10th school in as many years to host. Kansas hosted last year's event in Topeka, Kan.
The 8,000-meter race will start at 10 a.m. on Fri., Oct. 28. The top-15 finishers will be named to the all-conference team.
