October 17, 2005 | Cowboy Basketball
Curry averaged 9.4 points and 2.8 assists per game his freshman season in a Cowboy uniform. He started 15 of the final 16 games for Oklahoma State, and was a contributing factor in OSU's repeat as Big 12 Tournament champion. OSU finished the season last year at 26-7 and advanced to the regional semifinals of the NCAA Tournament.
Curry is joined on the preseason All-Big 12 team by Iowa State's Curtis Stinson, Taj Gray of Oklahoma, and Texas' Daniel Gibson and P.J. Tucker.
Mario Boggan, a junior college transfer entering his first season at Oklahoma State, shares preseason Newcomer of the Year honors with Oklahoma's Michael Neal. Boggan, a transfer from Chipola College in Florida, is a 6-7, 235 pound forward. He averaged 20.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game last year while shooting 57.9 percent from the floor. He earned National Junior College Athletic Association honorable mention All-America honors after leading his team to a 33-4 record and the semifinals of the NJCAA National Tournament.
The Cowboys began preseason practices last Friday and have approximately 3-1/2 weeks before the season begins with an exhibition contest against Oklahoma City on Tuesday, Nov. 8. Oklahoma State has 10 newcomers joining four returners this season, and the Cowboys were predicted last week to finish fourth in the Big 12 Conference by the league coaches.
