Cowboys Headed to Pre-National Meet
October 13, 2005 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
Senior Sean McCabe will lead the Cowboys in what could prove to be a very important meet in the Cowboys' season. A high finish at this weekend's meet would greatly improve the Pokes' chances of making the national meet as an alternate if they don't finish in the top two spots in their region.
“This is a big race for us and the guys know that,” said Cowboy head coach Dick Weis. “We have a great shot to get to the national meet if we run well this weekend and beat the teams that we need to beat.”
Cowboy senior Sean McCabe will be joined by juniors Mike Devenport, Joe Gray, and Brian Ehlis, along with a talented group of freshmen including Ryan Vail, Alejandro Ruiz, Ryan Birkholz, and Matt Barnes-Smith.
The Cowboys' will be one of 32 teams in their race. 14 of those teams are nationally ranked, including fourth-ranked BYU, fifth-ranked Stanford, and 10th-ranked Cal Poly.
The meet, which is being hosted by Indiana State, will start at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
