Softball Wins Three At Fall Classic

The Cowgirls got off to their slowest start of the day against Eastern, not plating a run through three innings. Stephanie Nicholson got OSU started with a triple and Shianne Cruce and Ashlyn Watson followed with RBI singles in the fourth.
OSU upped its lead to 4-0, scoring one in the fifth and sixth innings thanks to base hits by Megan Carey and Watson.
Marge Johnson went the distance in the circle, allowing two hits and striking out 13 in her debut as a Cowgirl.
Oklahoma State's offense took over in the two evening games, earning run-rule wins in both contests.
Neosho scored two runs in the first but the Cowgirls tied the game in the bottom of the frame thanks to a base hit from Shanel Scott and a pair of Neosho errors.
Nicholson connected for OSU's first long ball of the season, a two-run shot in the third and Dominique VanNortwick closed out the inning with a RBI double to give the Cowgirls a 5-0 lead.
The Cowgirls put the game away after scoring three runs in the fourth and fifth innings, paced by two-RBI triples from Courtney Totte and Shanel Scott.
Jessica Hoppock struck out nine and scattered two hits en route to the win.
The Cowgirls jumped on Cowley early, scoring nine runs in the first inning. Tara Jeffery Watson and Scott provided the bulk of the offensive firepower in the frame. Jeffery had a two-RBI double, Watson a RBI double and Scott a three-RBI triple.
OSU scored one run in the second and closed out the game with three in the fifth. Jeffery had a two-run triple and Watson a RBI single to enforce the mercy rule after five innings.
Johnson earned the start, striking out six and walking two in two innings. Kristen Neil tossed the final three frames, fanning six and scattering one hit.
Oklahoma State (3-0) returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Carl Albert Junior College at 3 p.m.
