Cowgirl Softball Set To Take On Texas

Oklahoma State heads the the Lonestar state for a two-game series with Texas this weekend. The Cowgirls and Longhorns kick off the weekend at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Sunday's game will start at 1 p.m. and will be televised on College Sports Television (CSTV). Texas leads the all-time series 10-4 and has won four straight against the Cowgirls.
Both teams enter the weekend having lost their mid-week contest. The Cowgirls fell to Texas A&M, 2-3, in game one and the second contest was called after two innings due to weather. Texas lost to Baylor, 2-4, in Austin.
The Cowgirls (5-7) are currently sixth in the conference standings, followed by Texas with a 4-8 record. Both teams swept Texas Tech and Iowa State. Texas has four conference road games remaining after this weekend; two at Kansas and one each at Texas A&M and Baylor. The Cowgirls play Oklahoma on the road and close out the season against Baylor at home.
Last year the Longhorns swept the Cowgirls in Stillwater, 1-0 and 9-5, to win the Big 12 regular-season title.
HEAD COACH MARGARET REBENAR
Margaret Rebenar is in her 25th season season as a softball coach at Oklahoma State and third as a head coach. Rebenar joined the Cowgirl softball program in 1980 after serving as a pitching coach at UCLA for one season. After filling the assistant coach role for 22 seasons, Rebenar was named the head coach in 2001. Rebenar led the 2003 Cowgirls to a second-place finish in the Big 12 regular season race and their first NCAA Regional appearance in five years. Under her guidance, 23 players have earned All-American status 29 times, including Olympians Michele Smith, Melanie Roche and Lauren Bay. Rebenar brings a 93-61 record as a head coach into the series with Texas.
SCOUTING TEXAS
Texas is 22-18 on the year and has won four of its last five conference games after starting league play 0-7. The Longhorns are hitting .284 as a team, good enough for second in the conference. Amber Hall leads the team and ranks third in the Big 12 with a .383 batting average. Chez Sievers comes in second with a .323 average and nine doubles followed by Wynter Turns with a team-high nine home runs and 34 RBI. The Longhorns have two healthy pitchers on staff after Amy Bradford was sidelined by injury earlier this year. Freshman Christina Gwyn leads the duo with a 3.36 ERA and 7-9 record in 137.1 innings. Junior Lizi Sowers is 8-6 in 76.2 innings with a 2.92 ERA.

LOOKING AHEAD
Next week marks the final week of the Big 12 regular season. The Cowgirls will be looking for revenge when the second round of Bedlam hits the field next Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Norman. OSU wraps up the season with a two-game series against Baylor at Cowgirl Stadium next weekend. The Cowgirls will honor their four seniors prior to Sunday's contest.

Oklahoma State's home conference games, as well as the OU game in Norman, the TU game in Tulsa and all postseason contests will be broadcast live on Stillwater Radio. Bill VanNess will provide the play-by-play for the sixth consecutive season. Any game starting prior to 5 p.m. will air on KSPI 780 AM. Any game starting at 5 p.m. or later will be broadcast on KGFY 105.5 FM.
