Cowgirl Softball Splits At Border War

Oklahoma State's softball team earned a split in Wednesday's Border War at Cowgirl Stadium. The Cowgirls edged Arkansas, 2-1, before falling to Tulsa, 4-0, in the nightcap.

Arkansas jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first contest, plating a run in the second off an Oklahoma State error.

The Cowgirls kept their cool and rallied for the win, led by Shanel Scott who scored both of OSU's runs against the Lady'Backs.

Scott crossed home for the equalizing run in the third after a textbook set of plays. The speedy freshman reached first on a base hit, moved to second on a sacrifice and scored on a single up the middle from Megan Carey.

The winning run came in the fifth when the Cowgirls connected for two hits and benefited from a timely wild pitch from Arkansas. Scott beat the throw to first on an infield single and moved to third on a base hit from Courtney Totte to set up the play.

Jessica Hoppock improved to 16-12 on the year with the win. The freshman gave up one unearned run off four hits, two walks and eight strikeouts.

Oklahoma State did not fare as well in the nightcap, losing to Tulsa for the second time this season.

Tulsa scored one in the second and exploded for three runs in the sixth to secure the win.

Maren Genow had Oklahoma State stumped for much of the game, giving up two hits in the contest and allowing just four Cowgirls to reach base.

The Cowgirls did not help themselves against the Hurricane, committing two errors in the sixth that allowed three unearned runs to score.

Randi Cook (1-3) tossed the first 5.0 innings against Tulsa, scattering six hits and giving up three runs, one earned, on one walk and two strikeouts. Hoppock closed out the contest, allowing one unearned run off one hit and one strikeout in the final two innings.

Oklahoma State (20-18) travels to Missouri for its first conference road trip of the season this weekend, kicking off the series at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
