Softball Falls At Worth Invitational

Oklahoma State's softball team fell to 0-4 on the weekend after dropping a pair of contests on Saturday at the Worth Invitational. The Cowgirls lost to No. 25 Oregon State, 1-0, and Cal State Fullerton, 4-1.

The Cowgirls and the Beavers played to a scoreless stalemate until Oregon State scored the lone run of the game in the fifth, a home run from Brianne McGowan.

The Cowgirls had their chances to score but were unable to make good on the opportunities. OSU loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth after a hit by pitch and pair of walks but Monica Hoffman struck out the final Cowgirl to preserve the shutout.

Oklahoma State rallied again in the sixth, moving runners to second and third with no outs but the Beavers defense held strong and came through with the final three outs of the game.

Oklahoma State's Jessica Hoppock was saddled with the loss against Oregon State, dropping to 9-5 on the year. Hoppock scattered four hits, struck out four and walked three.

In the second game of the day Lindsey Bashor gave the Titans a 1-0 lead after one inning, blasting a two-out long ball to center field. Fullerton extended its lead to 3-0 after RBI doubles in the second and third innings.

The Cowgirls connected for two hits in the fifth and Courtney Totte put the Cowgirls on the board with a RBI single. Calli Behmer led off the frame with a double and was replaced by pinch runner Erika Ennis. Ennis then moved to third on a sacrifice from Shanel Scott and crossed home plate on Totte's base hit.

The Titans scored one run in the bottom of the fifth, capitalizing on two hits and a pair of Oklahoma State errors. After the run, OSU's defense forced the home team to leave the bases loaded, getting a strikeout and fly ball to end the frame trailing 4-1.

Jessica Hoppock took the loss for the Cowgirls, giving up four runs, striking out five and allowing seven hits.

Oklahoma State (12-11) wraps up play at the Worth Invitational against Portland State at 11 a.m. (CST) on Sunday.
