Cowgirl Softball Takes Two From UMKC

Strong winds played a part in Tuesday's contests as the Cowgirls and Kangaroos combined for four home runs.
Courtney Totte gave the Cowgirls a 1-0 lead with a RBI single in the bottom of the first. Shanel Scott scored on the play after reaching on a walk, stealing second and advancing to third on a passed ball.
The Cowgirls had multiple home runs for the first time this year. Megan Carey had a solo shot in the fourth and Shianne Cruce plated the final two runs of the game with a two-run long ball in the sixth.
The Kangaroos prevented the shutout with a solo home run in the top of the seventh from Kristen Caldwell.
Jessica Hoppock improved to 14-9 on the year, giving up one run, striking out 10 and issuing one walk.
Randi Cook tossed the first two innings, allowing no hits and walking one. Kristen Neil came on in the third, giving up one run and walking two. Hoppock closed out the contest and earned her second win of the day, striking out six batters and scattering two hits.
Stephanie Nicholson led the Cowgirls at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBI.
One final run crossed home plate for OSU when Carey scored on a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the sixth.
The Cowgirls set a new record for stolen bases when Jennie Killman came through with her first steal of the year in the bottom of the fifth. OSU now has 60 stolen bases on the season led by Scott with 18.
