Cowgirls Pick Up First Conference Victory

The Cowgirls (4-5, 1-2) once again struggled in doubles play, but picked up a victory at the bottom four singles matches to pick up their first win in conference this year.
Kansas State (3-5, 0-3) got off to a quick lead by picking up the victory in two of the three doubles matches.
At the No. 1 position, seniors Katya Kolodynska and Jana Karaskova fell in a close one to Maria Rosenberg and Paulina Castillejos, 8-6. Freshmen Lauren Simmons and Jennifer Poskitt evened things up with an 8-4 decision over Hayley McIver and Alkhatib at the No. 3 slot.
The Wildcats claimed the team point with a close 9-7 victory at the No. 2 position. Junior Ines Furtmayr and sophomore Zana Masnic fell to Jessica Simosa and Judith Diaz.
In singles competition, the Cowgirls picked up four of the six decisions to come away with the victory.
At the No. 1 position, Kolodynska was unable to put the Cowgirls on the board, falling 6-0, 6-0 to Rosenberg. Simosa extended the Wildcat lead to three with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Karaskova at the No. 2 position.
OSU finally notched a team point when Furtmayr defeated Castillejos at the No. 3 position in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Masnic followed suit at the No. 4 position, downing McIver 7-6, 6-2.
The Cowgirls evened the match when Simmons defeated Diaz at the No. 5 position 6-2, 6-4. The comeback was completed when Poskitt dropped Alkhatib in straight sets at the No. 6 slot, 6-3, 6-2.
The win moved the Cowgirls to 26-3 all-time against their conference opponent.
OSU will return to action on Saturday, March 20 when they face the Mean Green of North Texas in Denton, Texas.
