Cowgirls Travel To Wichita
March 15, 2004 | Cowgirl Softball
Oklahoma State travels up Interstate 35 looking for revenge against Wichita State on Tuesday. The Cowgirls were blanked by the Shockers, 1-0, last Thursday at Cowgirl Stadium. It was the first time the Cowgirls have lost to Wichita State in Stillwater and just the third all-time loss to the Shockers.
HEAD COACH MARGARET REBENAR
Margaret Rebenar is in her 25th season season as a softball coach at Oklahoma State and third as a head coach. She brings a 81-50 record as a head coach into Tuesday's contest with Wichita State. Rebenar led the 2003 Cowgirls to a second-place finish in the Big 12 regular season race and their first NCAA Regional appearance in five years. Under her guidance, 23 players have earned All-American status 29 times, including Olympians Michele Smith, Melanie Roche and Lauren Bay.
SCOUTING WICHITA STATE
ichita State is 12-10 and has won seven of its last nine contests. The Shockers are led by Stephanie Scott with a .349 batting average. Scott depends on the small ball, having sent just one hit for extra bases. Ashley Lynn leads the squad with 17 RBIs, seven doubles and three home runs. Lynn hit the game-winning home run against the Cowgirls last week. Lindsay Abbott and Kyra Whitt supply speed on the bases. Abbott is 8-for-8 and Whitt 14-for-16 on steal attempts. Lindsay Craig is the go-to pitcher with an 8-4 record and 1.70 ERA in 86.1 innings. Lindsey Lang and Margo Pruis serve as the reserves. Lang is 1-5 on the year with a 2.42 ERA in 43.1 innings. Pruis picked up the win against OSU in the last meeting and has thrown 28.2 innings en route to a 3.17 ERA and 3-1 mark.
UNCOMMON LOSSES
Oklahoma State has been nearly unbeatable by non-conference opponents at Cowgirl Stadium since it opened in 2000, posting a 21-4 record at home. Two of those losses have come this year, a 4-2 setback to North Texas and a 1-0 loss against Wichita State. The North Texas contest was the Cowgirls first non-conference loss since dropping a 3-0 decision to Arkansas on April 11, 2001 and ended a 17-game home non-conference winning streak. Against all opponents the Cowgirls are 27-10 at Cowgirl Stadium.
LOOKING AHEAD
Oklahoma State heads to Boca Raton, Fla., for its final tournament of the season, the Florida Atlantic Tournament. The Cowgirls will face Kent State, Florida Atlantic, Florida International and Arkon in pool play on Friday and Saturday. The championship round will take place on Sunday. A pair of non-conference games with UMKC await the Cowgirls upon their return to Oklahoma.
