Cowgirls Drop Third Straight Match

The Cowgirls (3-5, 0-2) struggled again in doubles play, dropping all three matches. At the No. 1 slot, seniors Katya Kolodynska and Jana Karaskova fell to Courtney and Kristen Steinbock, 8-4.
Junior Ines Furtmayr and sophomore Zana Masnic were defeated by Emily Haylock and Ashley Filberth, 8-4. The Jayhawks (2-7, 1-0) got the doubles sweep when freshmen Lauren Simmons and Jennifer Poskitt fell to Christine Skoda and Brittany Brown, 8-5.
The Cowgirls and Jayhawks split the singles matches with OSU picking up victories at the first, fourth and sixth positions.
OSU tallied their first team point when Kolodynska defeated C. Steinbock at the No. 1 position, 6-2, 7-5. KU answered when Haylock dropped Karaskova in straight sets at the No. 2 position, 6-3, 6-1.
The Jayhawks extended the lead when Furtmayr was defeated at the No. 3 slot by Skoda, 7-5, 6-2. The match was decided at the No. 5 position where Simmons fell to Brown, 7-5, 7-6.
The Cowgirls made the match close when Masnic picked up the straight set victory over K. Steinbock at the No. 4 position, 6-3, 6-1. Poskitt continued her hot streak at the No. 6 position, picking up the 7-6, 6-4 victory over Luiza Loureiro.
The Cowgirls will return to action on Saturday at noon when they face the Kansas State (3-4, 0-2) at the Washburn Tennis Courts in Manhattan, Kan. OSU will try to pick up their first conference victory and avenge a 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Wildcats last season.
