Cowgirl Softball Hosts Wichita State

A LOOK BACK...
The Cowgirls came away with a 5-3 win in nine innings when the two teams met earlier this year at the North Texas Betlin Round-Up in Denton, Texas. The Cowgirls jumped out to an early 1-0 lead but were forced to rally in the top of the seventh to send the game into extra innings. Oklahoma State scored three runs in the top of the ninth, then finished off WSU by allowing just one run in the bottom frame.
Kristen Neil started the contest, but went just two innings, giving up two runs on four hits and three walks. Freshman Jessica Hoppock came to the mound in the third, and threw the remaining seven innings, scattering six hits while striking out a season-high 13 Shockers.
HEAD COACH MARGARET REBENAR
argaret Rebenar is in her 25th season season as a softball coach at Oklahoma State and third as a head coach. She brings a 81-49 record as a head coach into Tuesday's contest with Wichita State. Rebenar led the 2003 Cowgirls to a second-place finish in the Big 12 regular season race and their first NCAA Regional appearance in five years. Under her guidance, 23 players have earned All-American status 29 times, including Olympians Michele Smith, Melanie Roche and Lauren Bay.
SCOUTING WICHITA STATE
Wichita State is 11-10 on the year and has won six of its last eight contests. The Shockers are led by Stephanie Scott with a .341 batting average. Scott depends on the small ball, having sent just one hit for extra bases. Ashley Lynn leads the squad with 16 RBIs, seven doubles and three home runs. Lindsay Abbott and Kyra Whitt supply speed on the bases. Abbott is 8-for-8 and Whitt 14-for-16 on steal attempts. Lindsay Craig is the go-to pitcher with an 8-4 record and 1.79 ERA in 82.0 innings. Lindsey Lang and Margo Pruis serve as the reserves. Lang is 1-5 on the year with a 2.42 ERA in 43.1 innings. Pruis has thrown 26.0 innings en route to a 3.50 ERA and 2-1 mark.
LOOKING AHEAD
Oklahoma State visits Wichita State next Tuesday at 5 p.m. to close out the series with the Shockers. The Cowgirls leave the following day for the Florida Atlantic Tournament in Boca Raton, Fla. OSU will face Akron, Florida Atlantic, Florida International and Kent State in pool play.
COWGIRL SOFTBALL ON THE AIR
Oklahoma State's home conference games, as well as the OU game in Norman, the TU game in Tulsa and all postseason contests will be broadcast live on Stillwater Radio. Bill VanNess will provide the play-by-play for the sixth consecutive season. Any game starting prior to 5 p.m. will air on KSPI 780 AM. Any game starting at 5 p.m. or later will be broadcast on KGFY 105.5 FM.
