Cowgirls Claim Title After Split
February 24, 2004 | Cowgirl Softball
The Cowgirls dropped the morning game with Southwest Missouri State 2-1 before rebounding to defeat runner-up New Mexico 1-0.
OSU improved their record to 9-4 after going 5-1 during the weekend tournament.
The Cowgirls scored in their first at bat on an RBI triple by shortstop Stephanie Nicholson that scored outfielder Shanel Scott.
Southwest Missouri State countered with a two-run home run by Shannon Buslepp in the second inning to put the Bears on top for good.
Against New Mexico, Crystal Lee's home run in the second inning turned out to be all the Cowgirls needed as Kristen Neil and Jessica Hoppock combined for the four-hit shutout.
The Cowgirls had four players named to the all-tournament team; catcher Courtney Totte, shortstop Nicholson and outfielders Scott and Lacy Darity.
The Cowgirls return to action when they host Panhandle State this Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Cowgirl Statdium
