Oklahoma State's equestrian lost a close show in the head-to-head battle against the Georgia Bulldogs, 1005.31-984.34, this weekend at the Animal Science Arena on the campus of the University of Georgia.
The competition started at English Equitation where Georgia rode to a 265 point finish to the Cowgirls' 254. Lindsey Pounds recorded the highest point total for the team with her 65.5 points, but it was not enough as the Bulldogs recorded the top three finishes.
The Bulldogs extended their lead with a 246-218 win in Western Horsemanship. Crissy Meeks scored the highest points in the event with her 72-point finish. However, the Bulldogs placed second through third before earning the victory.
Georgia then built on its lead with a 7.5 point victory in English Equitation Over Fences. Lindsay Parker scored a team best 65.5 points, but it was not enough to fuel a Cowgirl team.
The Cowgirls made a late surge to drop the Bulldogs with their victory in Rening, but it was not enough as Georgia held on for the victory. Kristin Dickerson continued her impressive riding in Rening with a day high of 73.26 point finish. Allison Pickett and Georgia's Morgan Strauss tied for second with 71.04 points each.
OSU will return to action March 6-7 with a trio of Western shows at Texas A&M. The Cowgirls will look to build on its regional lead to earn the automatic berth to nationals.
