Cowgirls Victorious in Weekend Matches

OSU (2-0) improved to 9-1 all time against SMS (1-4). The Cowgirls picked up the victory in a match that featured only singles play.
“We are very much amazed by our team right now,” head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski said. “We are playing very well right now and are playing a lot better than anyone would have imagined.”
Senior Katya Kolodynska continued her hot streak by blanking Maja Stanojevic at the No. 1 position, 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Jennifer Poskitt also remained undefeated on the year, dropping Biljana Gakavic at the No. 6 position, 6-4, 6-1.
Sophomore Zana Masnic gave the Cowgirls a 3-0 lead by defeating Laura Alvarez at the fourth position in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
The match was decided at the No. 5 position where freshman Lauren Simmons kept OSU undefeated, dropping Elizabeth Garza 6-2, 6-2.
“Everyone is playing well for us right now,” Lubicz-Majewski said. “From top to bottom, all of our girls are working very hard.”
The No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches did not finish, although the Cowgirls held early leads in both.
The Cowgirls will be looking to extend their winning streak when they compete in the UNLV Team Tournament Feb. 27 to 29 in Las Vegas, Nev.
