Oklahoma State's softball team took advantage of its lone exhibition game on Wednesday, defeating Cowley College, 14-0, at Cowgirl Stadium. The Cowgirls scored in four innings, including a five-run explosion in the third.
Shanel Scott got the Cowgirls off to a great start with a triple down the right field line and scored on a single from Ashleigh Tweed. Tweed rounded the bases after a wild pitch, passed ball and base hit from Crystal Lee.
The Cowgirls jumped on the Lady Tigers from the start of the third inning as well. Courtney Totte led off with a single and stole second to get in scoring position. Megan Carey pushed Totte to third with a base hit and the freshman crossed home plate on a sacrifice fly from Jennie Killman. Lee came up with another big hit, this time a two-run homer that easily cleared the fence in left center.
Calli Behmer kept the inning going after she reached on an error, gained second on a line drive up the middle from Alliya Anderson and scored on a passed ball. Anderson added the fifth and final run of the frame, rounding the bases on a hit from Scott.
Oklahoma State plated three runs in the seventh to increase its lead to 10-0. Lacy Darity reached first base after being hit by a pitch and Shianne Cruce drew a walk to put Cowley in an early bind. The duo then stole second and third to get in scoring position. Tweed followed with a base hit up the middle that scored Darity and a costly error by the Lady Tigers first baseman allowed Cruce and Tweed to score on the following play.
The Cowgirls capped off an impressive game with four runs in the bottom of the ninth. Tweed led the charge after gaining first on an error and stealing second. Totte walked and Megan Carey hit a hard single to right field to load the bases. Erika Ennis then laid down the perfect sacrifice bunt to score Tweed. Stephanie Nicholson followed with a RBI single and Darity ended the inning with a triple to bring in the final two runs of the game.
