Cowboys Clinch Spot at NCAA Championships
November 14, 2004 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
“Scott ran a great race,” said Oklahoma State assistant coach Dave Smith. “By far the best race of the season, probably the best of his career.”
Rantall's time of 30:28.34 led all Cowboys and earned him all-regional honors. Five other Cowboys joined Rantall in the top-25 and on the all-region team. Greg Rouault, David Jankowski, Joseph Gray, Tyler Campbell and Sean McCabe also finished in the top-25 for the Pokes. Campbell replaced Ryan Ripley at the last second due to an injury to Ripley. He responded by placing 22nd overall with a time of 31:16.96. Coach Smith found Campbell's performance to be the difference in the team advancing to Terra Haute, Ind., for nationals.
“All the guys ran very well, but Tyler's performance after being thrown in there at the last second definitely made the difference for the team.”
The Cowboys advanced to the NCAA Championships for the 11th time in the last 12 years. They finished 16th at nationals last year.
“We told the guys before the day started that we needed to finish number one or two to go to nationals,” said Smith,”They responded and ran a great race.”
The NCAA Championships are set for Monday, Nov. 22 with a noon start time.
