Cowboys Fall Behind Early, Finish Third at Big 12 Championships
October 30, 2004 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
Oklahoma State tried to save themselves on the first part of the tough course, but with the wind in their face on the final stretch, it was too late to pull out the win.
Senior Scott Rantall was the leader for the Cowboys, finishing 10th with a time of 24:58.11. Redshirt freshman David Jankowski and senior Greg Rouault followed him in the individual rankings for the Cowboys. Jankowski finished 18th and Rouault finished 23rd.
“It was a very tough course because it was very hilly with a lot of turns,” said Cowboy senior Greg Rouault,”It was hard to get into a rhythm because we kept having to accelerate then slow down.”
Also for OSU, Sean McCabe finished 28th, Brian Ehlis, Ryan Ripley and Tyler Campbell finished 30th through 32nd, respectively, and Chris Stoves finished 60th.
Kansas' Benson Chesang won the men's individual title, while Colorado finished first in the team standings for their ninth championship in nine years. No other team has won the men's Big 12 championship since the inception of the conference in 1996.
Next up for the Cowboys, they will travel to Peoria, Ill. for the the Midwest Region District Race.
“We will bounce back,” said Cowboys head coach Dick Weis,”We were all pretty disappointed with today's performance, but we have good kids and they will respond for the District meet.”
