Cowgirls Claim Honors at UNLV Invitational

Freshman standout Lauren Simmons ended Oklahoma State's women's tennis team's trip to Las Vegas with a victory in the championship round of the UNLV Invitational's fourth flight.

Simmons claimed the tournament title by defeating Maria Ruiz-Fabrega of New Mexico in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.

Also picking up a victory for the Cowgirls was sophomore Zana Masnic. In the consolation bracket, Masnic dominated San Diego's Jenna Anderson, 6-0, 6-1.

After gaining a quick early lead, senior Katia Kolodynska retired to give USD's Tara Livesey the 0-6, 3-2, ret. victory. Junior Ines Furtmayr also did not finish against San Diego's Jenny Brown, falling 7-5, 3-0, ret.

Senior Jana Karaskova continued to struggle, falling to Karen Kmiec of Northern Arizona in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5.

The Cowgirls will finish their fall tournament schedule when they compete at the ITA Regional Tournament in Salt Lake City, Utah, Oct. 22-26.
