Cowgirl Netters Gain Momentum at UNLV Invitational

Oklahoma State's women's tennis team saw four individuals and both teams advance in play at the UNLV Invitational at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on Saturday.
Freshman Lauren Simmons started things off for the Cowgirls by defeating Claire Simmons of hosting UNLV in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, to advance to the finals of flight four.
Also advancing for OSU, Jana Karaskova won her first match against Natalie Kopelle of Alabama by default. Karaskova dominated UNLV's Lindsay Sobers, 6-1, 6-1.
Sophomore Zana Masnic followed suit by defeating Julie Schmidt of Northern Arizona, 6-3, 7-6. Junior Ines Furtmayr was the final Cowgirl to advance, receiving a default victory against Northern Arizonas Ashley Dille.
San Diego's Lauren Perl handed the Cowgirls their lone loss on the day by defeating senior Katia Kolodynska, 6-4, 6-2, in the semifinals of flight one.
Kolodynska followed her singles performance by teaming with Karaskova to claim the tournament title at the flight one doubles position. The tandem defeated USD's Emma Murphy and Tara Livesay, 8-6.
In the consolation bracket, Masnic and Simmons picked up their first victory as a team by defeating Christina Klokinis and Karen Kmiec of NAU, 9-7.
The final rounds for all singles flights will continue on Sunday at 10 a.m. PDT, and be immediately followed by the remainder of the consolation matches.
