Softball Wins Two at Fall Invitational
September 23, 2003 | Cowgirl Softball
Oklahoma State scored in five-of-six innings against the Lady Norse. Shanel Scott scored what would prove to be the game-winning run in the bottom of the first after leading off with a single. Following a pair of sacrifice hits, Scott crossed home plate on a throwing error by the shortstop.
The Cowgirls then used three hits in the second highlighted by a triple from Courtney Totte to push the lead to 3-0. Totte's hit would be the Cowgirls only extra-base hit of the game.
Oklahoma State added one run in the third, two in the fourth and one in the sixth for the final margin.
Kristen Neil went the distance for the Cowgirls, fanning eight and giving up three hits while tossing the shutout.
The Cowgirls took an early lead in the second game as well, leading 6-0 after three innings.
Stephanie Nicholson got things started with a homer in the bottom of the second.
The bats really caught fire in the third as five runs crossed home plate when the Cowgirls capitalized on five hits and an error by SMS. Four of the five hits were singles. Calli Behmer had the only extra-base hit, a two RBI double that scored the final two runs of the frame.
All three of SMS's runs came from the long ball. Deanna Keim had a two-run shot in the fourth and Alicia Jager added a solo homer in the seventh.
Jessica Hoppock picked up the win on the mound, striking out nine Bears and surrendering three runs on five hits.
The Cowgirls resume the fall season Tuesday at 3 p.m. in a rescheduled contest against Butler Community College at Cowgirl Stadium
