Cowgirl Softball throttles Connors State, 16-1
September 18, 2003 | Cowgirl Softball
Oklahoma State's offense was sluggish to start, scoring two runs in the second and another in the third. After Connors State scored its lone run in the top of the fourth, OSU went on a spree, scoring six runs in the next two innings.
The OSU Cowgirls had 20 hits in the game, including three each from Shanel Scott, Stephanie Nicholson and Shianne Cruce. Only three of Oklahoma State's hits went for extra bases, as Nicholson had a two-run triple in the 11th and Jenny Killman and Crystal Lee each hit a double.
OSU played small ball for most of the afternoon, with 17 singles, eight walks and 11 stolen bases. The CSC Cowgirls also committed three fielding errors.
The Oklahoma State pitching duo of Kristen Neil and Jessica Hoppock combined for the 12 inning contest, giving up only an unearned run in the fourth. The pair scattered six hits, but did give up five bases on balls while striking out 15. Neil started the game and picked up the win, throwing seven innings and striking out six, while Hoppock pitched the final five innings and recorded nine strikeouts.
Oklahoma State will host Butler County Community College Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Cowgirl Stadium.
