Lady Netters Start Strong at Lady Razorback Invitational

In first round play, Furtmayr led things off by defeating Southwest Missouri State's Laura Alvarez in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. The Uffing, Germany, native continued her strong showing with a come-from-behind victory against Texas Arlington's Gretel Hach, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Sophomore Zana Masnic followed suit by defeating Holly Lee of North Texas, 6-0, 6-1. Masnic then lost her second match to Anna Dybicz of Arkansas, 6-3, 6-4.
The lone first round defeat for the Cowgirls came when freshman Lauren Simmons was unable to hold an early lead against Texas Arlington's Daniela Novakova, 4-6, 6-3, 6-0.
Furtmayr was the only Cowgirl to pick up a victory in the second round of competition. She continued her strong showing with a come-from-behind victory against Texas Arlington's Gretel Hach, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Senior Katia Kolodynska was unable to get anything going against Monika Peciulionyte of Texas Arlington, falling 6-2, 7-5.
Senior transfer Jana Karaskova dropped her first match as a Cowgirl to Marta Rubina of Southwest Missouri State, 6-3, 6-0.
The tournament will continue Saturday morning at the University of Arkansas Varsity Courts. It will be moved to the Dills Indoor Tennis Facility in the event of inclement weather.
