Cowgirl Softball Defeats Carl Albert State
September 10, 2003 | Cowgirl Softball
Oklahoma State's softball team kicked off its fall season with a win over Carl Albert State College Tuesday afternoon at Cowgirl Stadium. The Cowgirls had three three-run innings; the first, fifth and twelfth, en route to a 14-5 decision.
The first inning was highlighted by a two-run double from Megan Carey. Carey rounded the bases for the final run of the inning on an unusual play. With Heather Been up to bat, Shianne Cruce stole second, Carey stole home on the throw to third and Cruce followed by stealing third on the throw home.
The Vikings evened the score with a three-run homer in the third but the Cowgirls added a run in the bottom of the frame and never looked back.
OSU had four hits in the fifth to add three runs to the scoreboard. After Megan Carey and Jade Lindly led off the frame with a pair of singles, Courtney Totte earned two RBIs with a base hit up the middle. Shanel Scott later brought Totte home with a double through the left side for the third run in the inning.
The Cowgirls closed out the contest like they began it, plating three runs in the final frame off four hits.
Two newcomers saw their first action on the mound for OSU, Jessica Hoppock and Kristen Neil. Hoppock threw the first seven innings, fanning five batters while surrendering three runs on two hits. Neil closed out the contest for the Cowgirls, giving up two runs on three hits with two strikeouts.
