Cowgirl Softball Falls To Oklahoma, 3-2
May 04, 2003 | Cowgirl Softball
Things werent going OSUs way on Saturday and Oklahoma capitalized from the start, scoring their first run of the day on a wild pitch from Lauren Bay in the top of the second.
OU then added to its lead in the third, pushing two runs home on three hits. Leah Gulla led off with a double and rounded the bases on a single from Kelli Braitsch. Braitsch then stole second and added the final run of the inning on a double from Heather Scaglione.
The Cowgirls made a game of it in the sixth on a two-run bomb by Ryan Realmuto.
Stephanie Nicholson started the inning with a single, just the second hit of the contest for OSU. The Sooners managed to get the next two Cowgirls out, but Realmuto pulled Oklahoma State within one with a dinger down the left field line.
Oklahoma State averted further disaster in the top of the seventh, forcing Scaglione to pop up to Nicholson for the final out of the inning. In the end it would not matter as the Cowgirls failed to get a runner on base and took their eighth one-run loss of the year.
Lauren Bay was saddled with the loss for the Cowgirls, falling to 24-8 on the year. Bay issued three walks, struck out three and gave up one run in two innings before Sarah Seagraves came on in relief. Seagraves gave up two runs on three hits, three walks and one strikeout.
Oklahoma State falls to 37-12 while Oklahoma improves to 41-11. The Cowgirls and Sooners will take the field again Sunday morning to determine who advances to the championship contest. The time is dependent on the outcome of the Texas-Nebraska game. If Texas wins OSU and OU play at 10 a.m. If Nebraska wins, the game is at 8:30 a.m.
