Phillips, Young Win Sections at Tyson Invite

Phillips finished the 800 meters in 1:53.22 to win his section of the event. He barely edged out Kansas State's Matt Schmoekel's 1:53.36 for 11th place overall in the preliminaries. David Greenshields finished fourth in the same section with a time of 1:55.18.
Phillips shortened his best time this season by more than three seconds while also setting a new personal mark in the 800m.
Young recorded the fastest time of any section in the 1,500m run. His time of 3:50.29 was just ahead of Gary Hamer's 3:50.84. Hamer was competing as an unattached runner.
Young's time was the best Cowboy performance this season in the 1,500m.
The meet continues today with the 800m finals are scheduled to start at 8:20 p.m. and the finals for the 1,500m before that at 7:15 p.m. Today events start with the hammer at 10 a.m. Running events commence at 6:50 p.m. with the finals of the women's 3,000m run. The meet concludes with the women's 1,600m relay at 9:55 p.m.
