Woolhouse and Alfheim Running For the Championship
May 20, 2003 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
Woolhouse currently has the 12th best time in the country in the 5,000-meter run. He ran a time of 13 minutes, 47.38 seconds at the Cardinal Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. on May 3. He finished third in the Big 12 in the 10k and fourth in the 5k.
Alfheim squeaked into the field for the 5k by finishing third at the Big 12 Championships with a time of 16:22.74. Her time currently ranks her 18th out of the 19 competitors in the field. She won the indoor title in this event at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. on Mar. 9.
"I felt her chances of getting in were slim to none, but slim prevailed and she got in. We are excited at the opportunity to do something we have never done at Oklahoma State," women's head coach Catrina Acosta.
The Cowgirls are about to finish one of the most memorable years in school history. They had a successful cross country season and finished second in the Big 12 before going on to nationals where they were 18th. Alfheim's individual title in the 5k at the NCAA indoor meet carried them to a tie for 22nd in the country. With a Top 25 finish at the outdoor meet, it would mark the first time in school history the Cowgirls finished that high in all three seasons.
