May 18, 2003 | Cowgirl Softball
Oklahoma States softball team saw its season come to an end Saturday evening at the NCAA Regional in Fullerton, Calif., falling to Louisiana-Lafayette, 1-0, and Oregon, 7-6.
Following two uneventful innings against Louisiana-Lafayette,
After fanning the first batter, Becky McMurtry touched Bay for a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. Bay then responded with another strikeout before issuing a walk to Joy Webre who stole second. Bay followed with her sixth strikeout of the game to force the Ragin Cajuns to leave both runners stranded in scoring position.
Louisiana-Lafayette finally broke through in the top of the seventh, scoring on a wild pitch from Bay. After a strikeout to start the frame, Jill Robertson followed with a double, moved to second on a sacrifice and rounded the bases on the errant pitch. Bay then issued her second called strike of the frame to keep the Ragin Cajuns lead at 1-0.
The meat of the Cowgirl lineup stepped to the plate in the bottom of the frame but all three were retired and OSU ended the game with just one hit, a single from Megan Carey in the fourth.
ULL sophomore pitcher Brooke Mitchell had the Cowgirls stumped all afternoon, striking out 10 and giving up one hit without issuing a walk.
