A pair of seniors on the Cowgirl softball team were among 24 players named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Midwest Region teams announced this week. Pitcher Lauren Bay earned first-team honors and catcher Ryan Realmuto was named to the second-team. All-Region team members are eligible for the NFCA All-America ballot.
A native of Trail, B.C., Canada, Bay has rewritten the pitching record books at Oklahoma State. She holds the top spot in starts, saves, complete games, innings pitched, appearances and strikeouts. She has fanned 15 batters or more 12 times this year, including a personal-best 23 against Kansas on March 16 in Stillwater. Earlier this year, Bay became the first pitcher at OSU to strikeout 1,000 batters and her season strikeout ratio of 12.8 per game is good for second in the nation. Bays selection was the third All-Midwest Region first-team honor of her career.
Realmuto, a native of Del City, Okla., has started all but five games in her career. Most recently the catcher earned first-team All-Big 12 honors and was named to the all-tournament team at the conference tournament. She is second in all-time doubles, home runs, total bases, runs batted in and walks at Oklahoma State. Realmuto earned second-team All-Midwest Region honors last season.
Oklahoma State (39-13) continues its bid for a spot in the Womens College World Series, facing Louisiana-Lafayette at 3:30 p.m. (CST) Saturday in Fullerton, Calif.
