Cowboy Cross Country Finishes 14th at NCAA Championships

Second-ranked Stanford upset first-ranked Arkansas, edging past them by a score of 53-56 to win the national title. The two schools dominated the field of 22 teams, outscoring third- place and third-ranked Colorado by 52 points. Fourth-ranked Michigan and fifth-ranked Wisconsin rounded out the top five teams placing fourth and fifth respectively.
Kevin Sullivan from Michigan was the overall individual national champion. He covered the 10-kilometer course in a time of 29:01.
The Cowboys used the same plan of attack that has proven successful the past five seasons but could not manage to bring a trophy back to Stillwater.
Sophomore Chuck Sloan led all Cowboys with a 41st-place finish in a time of 30:44.
Completing the Cowboy scoring was junior Rene Carlsen, 49th place (30:57); senior Erik Framme, 72nd (31:18); junior Nathaniel Lane, 91st (31:37); junior Brian Young, 93rd (31:38).
Rounding out the Cowboy finishers were junior Habel Gitogo Churu, 105th (31:53) and redshirt freshman Scott Gray, 125th (32:23).
