Softball Enters Big 12 Tournament As No. 2 Seed

Oklahoma State will meet the winner of the play-in game between Iowa State and Baylor at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. A win would advance the Cowgirls to the 8 p.m. contest on Friday against the Missouri-Nebraska winner. A loss bumps the Cowgirls to the 3 p.m. game against the Missouri-Nebraska loser.
The Cowgirls swept both Iowa State (9-1 in 6 innings; 7-3) and Baylor (2-0; 4-0). In the Big 12 Tournament OSU is 1-0 against Iowa State and 0-1 against Baylor.
OSU VS. THE BIG 12 TOURNAMENT FIELD
The Cowgirls have swept six Big 12 teams this year: Kansas, Baylor, Texas Tech, Missouri, Nebraska and Iowa State. Oklahoma State split with Oklahoma during the regular season.
MOVING ON UP
Oklahoma State ended the regular season in second place in the Big 12 standings, its highest finish since the 1996 season when the Cowgirls tied OU for first place. Since that time OSU has not drawn higher than a five seed for the conference tournament. The Cowgirls also posted 13 league wins in 2003, their highest total since winning 10 in 1997.
COWGIRL SOFTBALL ON THE AIR
All of Oklahoma State’s postseason contests, including the Big 12 Tournament in Oklahoma City, will be broadcast live on Stillwater Radio. Bill VanNess will provided the play-by-play for the fifth consecutive season. Any game starting prior to 6 p.m. will air on KSPI 780 AM. Any contest starting at 6 p.m. or later will be broadcast on KGFY 105.5 FM.
BIG 12 TOURNAMENT TICKETS
The eighth Big 12 Softball Tournament will take place Thursday-Sunday, May 1-4, at Don Porter ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. All-session general admission tickets are $50, while single session prices are $8 for adults and $5 for seniors and children 12 and under. Tickets can be ordered by contacting Wilma Goodin of the Oklahoma City All Sports Association at (405) 236-5000.
NCAA SELECTION INFO
The 64-team field that will compete for the 2003 NCAA Championship will be announced live at 9 p.m. (CST) Sunday, May 11 on ESPNews. Regional play will be May 15-18 on campus sites and the Women’s College World Series will be May 22-26 at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. The field was expanded to 64 teams this year with each of the eight sites; Nebraska, Texas, Alabama, Arizona, Cal State Fullerton, Florida, Fresno State and Michigan hosting eight teams. The Women’s College World Series will include the eight regional champions.
