Cowgirls Finish Second at Texas A&M Western Show
Oklahoma State's Cowgirl Equestrian team finished first in one show and second in two others to place second overall at the Texas A&M show held at the Dick Freeman Arena this weekend.
Oklahoma State won the first show on Saturday with 24 points. The Cowgirls then finished just behind Texas A&M in the remaining two shows and finished in second place overall on the weekend with 59 points.
"I was really pleased with the team's performance," head coach Larry Sanchez said. "Everyone showed really well. We do have a few things that need fixing. This week will allow us to work on some of those things in preparation for our home show next weekend. Overall, I was pleased with the way that we performed."
Nine Cowgirls also earned first place honors in their divisions. Freshmen Kim Cloud, Megan Walentine and Sarah Potter earned top honors in their divisions over the weekend. Sophomores Jenny Myles and Casie Cavanaugh also finished first in their divisions. Juniors Amy Allen, Amy Eastty, and Chelsea Makloski also finished first. Senior Amber Henderson also received top honors.
Cowgirls Take First at Hunt Seat Show
Oklahoma State's equestrian team opened its inaugural season with a win at the University of Texas show hosted by West Texas A&M on Oct. 2.
The show consisted of two hunt seat shows and points from both shows were added together to determine overall placings. The Cowgirls' team score of 52 points was good enough for a first place overall finish.
"I am very pleased with the girls' performance," head coach Larry Sanchez said. "I'm impressed with where we are this soon in the season. We're ahead of schedule. We still have some kinds to iron out, but the girls represented OSU very well."
Sophomore Audrey Buck won overall high-point honors for the show, as well as winning her division. Freshmen Jackie Skibicki, Kim Cloud and Amber Higgins also received first place in their divisions. Trista Armstrong and Susie Reed also received division top honors.
