Cowgirl Equestrian Regional Champions

"It was a close contest all weekend," assistant coach Suzanne Flaig said. "The girls kept riding better and better all weekend. We are very excited everything worked out as we wanted."
OSU had five riders take home first-place victories en route to a 34-point finish. Texas A&M finished second with 28 points, while Kansas State finished third with 21 points. West Texas A&M rounded out the top four with 18 points.
The Cowgirls finished the year with 245 points earning a team birth at the zone championships. Texas A&M finished the year in second with 229 points, while Kansas State had 228 points.
"We are very happy to be in good company," Flaig said. "Texas A&M and Kansas State are very good teams. We are happy we peaked at the right time and met our goal in sending a team to the zone championships."
Sophomore Corrie Janssen recorded the first victory for the Cowgirls in Open Fences, while sophomore Lindsay Smith captured her second victory of the weekend in Novice Fences.
Freshman Laura Brawdy finished second in Walk Trot before junior Amber Higgins captured first in Intermediate Flat. Freshman Amber Blythe recorded her second top-two finish by capturing first in Advanced Walk Trot Canter.
Junior Emily Hoaglan qualified for regionals by recording a first-place showing in Beginner Walk Trot Canter.
Senior Amy Gattis and sophomore Lindsay Pounds qualified for regionals on Friday by recording victories in Novice Flat and Open Flat, respectively.
The Cowgirls' Western team will conclude the regular season on Feb. 23-24 as they travel to Canyon, Texas, for a pair of Western Shows.
