Cowgirl Equestrian Places Fifth at Varisty Championships

"I thought we performed well," head coach Larry Sanchez said. "Besides some of the fixable mistakes we made, we are right where we need to be heading into nationals.
"This definitely gives us some things to work on for nationals," Sanchez said. "The girls came away from this with the determintaion and drive to work for nationals."
OSU had a trio of riders; Lindsey Smith, Crissy Meeks and Emily Hoaglan, garner top-three finishes. Smith and Meeks recorded second-place showings in Level Three Fences and Level 1 Horsemanship, respectively, while Hoaglan finished third in Level Three Horsemanship.
Texas A&M captured 43 overall points to claim the overall team title, while Georgia came in second with 28 points. West Texas A&M and Kansas State rounded out the top four with 26 and 22 points, respectively.
In the race for the title on the Hunter side, Georgia edged out Texas A&M 26-24 to claim the title, while Stonehill chipped in with 16 points to finish third. College of Charleston captured 11 points for a fourth-place finish, while OSU finished sixth with eight points.
On the Western side, West Texas A&M notched the victory with 20 points, while Texas A&M came in second with 13. OSU and Kansas State each chipped in 13 points to tie for third.
To capture the overall championship, the scores from the two divisions are added together.
The Cowgirls will return to action on May 2-5 at the IHSA National Championships at Cazenovia College in Cazenovia, N.Y.
