Cowgirl Equestrian Completes Day 1 at IHSA National Championships
April 03, 2003 | Cowgirl Equestrian
"I am really proud of April (Peck)," head coach Larry Sanchez said. "She could have easily won it with the job that she did.
"Things just didn't go our way in the first couple of classes, but the last couple of classes was better," Sanchez said. "I think all the girls are riding really well and I feel that we are prepared for tomorrow. We know the horses now and and we have two more day left, so anything can happen."
Individually, Crissy Meeks was the lone Cowgirl to place during the first day, capturing fourth in Open Horsemanship.
On the Hunter side, Chandy Hale placed fourth in Walk-Trot-Canter, while Emily Harison finished in sixth in Intermediate Fences, and Katie Thomas recorded an eighth-place showing in Novice Flat.
The Western team heads into Saturday's competition in third with five points, while the University of Findlay is in first with 14 points. Ohio State and Colorado State are tied for second with six points each.
In the race for the championship on the Hunter side, there is a three-way tie for first between Skidmore College, Hollins University and the University of Findlay, each with 12 points. OSU heads into day two in sixth with four points.
Competition resumes on Saturday at 8 a.m., (CST) at Cazenovia College.
