Cowgirl Softball Falls to No. 3 Texas
April 27, 2003 | Cowgirl Softball
The Cowgirls fell to 35-10 overall and 13-4 in the Big 12 and will enter the conference tournament as the second seed. Texas secured the number one seed, improving to 38-7 overall and 14-2 in league play.
The teams combined to leave nine runners stranded in the game, but four of those were in the final inning. No runner advanced past second until the top of the seventh when Texas managed to push one run home.
After a strikeout to start the inning, Wynter Turner drew a walk and moved to third when Tamara Poppe doubled to right center. Amber Hall followed with a fielders choice that allowed Turner to round the bases for the winning run.
With runners on first and third, the Longhorns attempted to add to their lead but Lauren Bay fanned the final two batters in the frame.
The Cowgirls made a run in the bottom of the frame but were forced to leave two runners on base. Ryan Realmuto led off with a walk and Lacy Darity entered as a courtesy runner.
Megan Carey then connected for OSUs only hit of the day, a single to the shortstop, but Texas defense came through with the final two outs to end the contest.
Lauren Bay (22-7) took the hard-luck loss for the Cowgirls, scattering two hits, striking out 11 and walking four in the contest.
Cat Osterman (22-4) gave up one hit, four walks and fanned 15 en route to the win.
Oklahoma State and Texas return to the field on Sunday at 1 p.m. to close out the regular season. The Cowgirls will honor their six seniors; Lauren Bay, Afton Burris, Cami Carter, Stephanie Hodges, Ryan Realmuto and Brooke Siebel prior to the contest.
