Equestrian Captures Zone Championship

The English team outscored Colorado State 52-44 to win the program’s third English Zone Championship in the programs short history. The English team had already earned the automatic berth as a team to the IHSA National Championship which will be held May 2-4.
Several riders from the English team won individual zone championships. Team captain Audrey Buck won in Open Fences. Lindsey Smith took home top honors in Novice Fences. Laura Brawdy won in Walk-Trot.
Although the Western team did not qualify a team to nationals, a trio of riders earned individual berths.
Team captain Luann Ulrich will look to win another national title after she placed first in Intermediate Horsemanship. The Fairview, Okla., native won the national title last year in Intermediate Western.
The Western team also fared well in Beginner Horsemanship. Laura Brawdy won the Zone championship. Teammate April Peck place second and will also move on to the IHSA National Championship.
The Cowgirls will next be in action May 2-4 to compete at the IHSA National Championships at Middle Tennessee State.
