Cowgirl Golfers win Big 12 Championships

Cowgirl freshman Karin Sjödin finished tied for second with a three-day total of 223. Senior Christi Cano finished fourth at 225, and sophomore Annie Thurman finished seventh with a 227. All three earned Big 12 All-Tournament honors.
The title is Oklahoma State’s third consecutive and fourth since the Big 12 Conference was formed in 1996-97. The Cowgirls have won 18 conference team championships in 28 years as a part of the Big Eight and Big 12.
Senior Linda Wessberg, who shot a par on hole 17 after shooting 10 over the previous two days on the same hole, finished with a 78 and in 25th place. Sophomore Jenny Karr carded a 77 and finished in 29th place.
Sjödin was one under through six holes before bogeying two of the last three on the front nine. She then shot par on the next eight holes before bogeying No. 18.
With a one-stroke lead, Sjödin needed a par to secure the victory. But, after her second shot fell left of the green, she had to chip on and two putt for a bogey. Mizzou freshman Denise Knaebel needed a par to tie the team score, but her approach shot fell short and she bogeyed the hole as well.
