Lady Netters Bounce Baylor, 4-3
April 20, 2003 | Cowgirl Tennis
The match against the Bears was moved indoors due to rain and wet conditions at the DuBois Tennis Center.
The Cowgirls (14-6, 8-3) were looking to improve their positioning for the upcoming Big 12 Tournament when they faced Baylor (11-11, 9-2), the leagues top team.
OSU once again set the tone early by picking up the doubles point. At the No. 1 position, the No. 23 ranked duo of senior Linda Faltynkova and junior Katya Kolodynska defeated Alison Bradley and Daria Potapova, 8-5.
The tandem of senior Erin Pauchnik and sophomore Ewa Radzikowska followed suit by dropping Vida Mulec and Stephanie Balzert at the No. 2 position, 8-6. The Cowgirl duo completed a perfect 8-0 regular season together.
Sophomore Ines Furtmayr and freshman Zana Masnic completed the doubles sweep by picking up the 8-3 victory over Izabela Mijic and Barbora Blahutiakova at the No. 3 position.
The match against the Bears marked the eighth consecutive time that the Cowgirls have picked up the doubles point. OSU is 7-1 over that stretch.
The match went back and forth in singles competition, but the Cowgirls never trailed for long.
The Bears tied the score at the No. 1 position when No. 89 Mulec came from behind to defeat Faltynkova, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5.
OSU responded by winning the No. 2 position. Cowgirl senior Kate Vasylyeva held on to defeat Balzert, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
Baylor would once again tie the team score when Potapova dropped Kolodynska at the No. 3 position, 6-1, 6-4.
Radzikowska continued her Big 12 dominance of the No. 4 position by defeating Bradley in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1. Radzikowska improved to 10-1 against her Big 12 opponents and 14-3 overall.
The Bears would respond by coming from behind to win at the No. 5 position. Blahutiakova overcame an early deficit to defeat Masnic, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Oklahoma State claimed the 4-3 victory when Furtmayr defeated Zuzana Krachnakova, 6-0, 7-5, at the No. 6 position.
The match against Baylor marked the final regular season bout for four Cowgirl seniors. Faltynkova, Vasylyeva, Pauchnik and Gorana Marsic finished their Oklahoma State careers with a victory.
With the win, OSU moves to 4-5 all time against Baylor, including a two match winning streak.
The win against Baylor gives the Cowgirls a shot at the No. 4 position in the Big 12 Tournament. OSU must hope that Texas defeats Kansas State on Sunday to give the Cowgirls the first round bye.
The first round of the Big 12 Tournament is scheduled to begin on Thursday, April 24.
