Cowgirls Defeated by Kansas State, 5-2
April 18, 2003 | Cowgirl Tennis
The match, originally scheduled to take place at the DuBois Tennis Center, was moved to the indoor courts in Edmond due to the cold weather.
The duo of senior Linda Faltynkova and junior Katya Kolodynska were able to get back on the winning track, defeating Andrea Cooper and Jessica Simosa at the No. 1 doubles slot, 9-7.
The Cowgirls (6-3 overall, 1-3 Big 12) doubles woes continued when the Wildcats (6-2 overall, 2-1 Big 12) were able to gain the doubles point with wins at both the No. 2 and No. 3 position.
The senior combination of Erin Pauchnik and Gorana Marsic was defeated by Petra Sedlmajerova and Paulina Castillejos at the No. 2 position, 8-4. Sophomore Ewa Radzikowska and senior Kate Vasylyeva were dropped in the No. 3 slot by Hayley McIver and Maria Rosenberg, 8-3.
OSU would even the overall score when Faltynkova came from behind to defeat Sedlmajerova (5-7), 6-3, 7-5. The Cowgirl senior is now 6-2 in the No. 1 singles position on the year.
Kansas State would claim the lead for good with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles position.
KSU's Rosenberg was able to down Vasylyeva in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. Kolodynska was unable to hold on to an early lead, falling (5-7), 7-5, 6-3 to Simosa.
The last team point for the Cowgirls came when Radzikowska dominated Castillejos at the No. 4 position, 6-2, 6-2. The win moves the sophomore to 6-1 on the year.
The Wildcats put the match out of reach when McIver defeated Cowgirl freshman Zana Masnic at the No. 5 position, 6-3, 6-4.
Rounding out the scoring for KSU, Cooper dropped sophomore Ines Furtmayr in straight sets, 6-0, 7-6 (4).
The loss to Kansas State was the first since a 5-1 decision in the first round of the Big 12 tournament in 2000, and the third consecutive conference setback for the Cowgirls. OSU is now 24-3 all time against the Wildcats.
The Cowgirls will be looking to rebound when they face off against Kansas at the DuBois Tennis Center at 11:00 a.m. on March 16.
