April 15, 2003 | Cowgirl Softball
Eight of Oklahoma State's opponents were ranked in the top 25 in the final regular season poll last year and three; Arizona, Nebraska and Oklahoma, finished in the top 10.
"Our schedule will be challenging this year," said second-year head coach Margaret Rebenar. " All three of our tournaments are substantial and we feel that our schedule is what it needs to be for us to have success."
Oklahoma State opens the spring campaign on Sat., Feb. 1, with scrimmages against NOC and SWOSU.
The Cowgirls then kick off the regular season with a tournament in Waikiki, Hawaii, Feb. 6-9. Oklahoma State will face Washington, Santa Clara, Louisville and tournament host, Hawaii. Following two days of pool play, bracket play will be used to determine the champion.
After the trip to Hawaii, the Cowgirls have three additional scrimmages to fine tune their game before resuming regular season play at the University of Arizona Tournament Feb. 21-23 in Tucson, Ariz.
On the slate for OSU at the U of A tournament will be Western Michigan, New Mexico, Virginia, Drake and host Arizona.
The final tournament on tap is the Speedline Invitational in Tampa, Fla., March 6-8. The Cowgirls will square off against Tennessee-Chattanooga, Michigan State, Maryland, Florida Atlantic and Illinois-Chicago in pool play before participating in a single-elimination tournament.
Big 12 conference play begins March 16-17 as Kansas comes to Stillwater for a two-game series. The Cowgirls also host Texas Tech (March 29-30), Missouri (April 12-13), Oklahoma (April 24) and Texas (April 26-27) in conference action.
Also dotting the home slate are non-conference opponents Wichita State (Feb. 26), Missouri-Kansas City (March 4), New Mexico State (March 14) and Tulsa (March 26).
On the road portion of its schedule, OSU will face Big 12 foes Baylor, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Nebraska and Iowa State as well as non-conference tilts with Wichita State and Arkansas.
For the second year, the Cowgirls will participate in the Softball Challenge at the Don A. Porter Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. OSU will take on Fresno State at 7:30 p.m. on April 15 and Florida at 5:30 on April 16. FSU finished the 2002 season ranked No. 17 in the final NFCA poll.
After the conclusion of the regular season, Oklahoma State will join the rest of the Big 12 field in Oklahoma City May 1-4 for the conference tournament at the Hall of Fame Stadium.
