HONOLULU, Hawaii - Oklahoma State's softball team turned in an impressive offensive performance on day two of the Chevron Paradise Classic, outscoring its opponents 16-1. The Cowgirls defeated Santa Clara, 11-1, and Louisville, 5-0, to even their record at 2-2.
Against Santa Clara, Oklahoma State jumped on top in the second with a three-run dinger from Lauren Bay. Brooke Siebel and Stephanie Hodges led off the inning with base hits, setting the stage for Bay's second long ball of the season and giving OSU a 3-0 lead that lasted until the fourth inning.
Santa Clara avoided the shutout in the bottom of the fourth when Tracie Hall sent a shot down the right field line to score Jenny Brown but Bay promptly silenced the threat, striking out the next batter to end the inning.
The Cowgirls got their offense rolling again in the fifth with a pair of runs off two hits. Ryan Realmuto used a double to send Erika Ennis home for the first run. Alliya Anderson then brought in Realmuto with a base hit that nearly cleared the outfield wall.
The sixth inning featured a scoring explosion from Oklahoma State with six runners rounding the base paths to give the Cowgirls the run-rule win.
Four Cowgirl hits and an error by the Broncos' defense allowed Oklahoma State to push six runs across the plate. The highlight of the inning was a two-out three-run long ball from Alliya Anderson that closed out the scoring in the game.
Lauren Bay (1-1) picked up the win on the mound, giving up just one hit while striking out 12 and walking one.
Oklahoma State's offense continued to fire in the second game of the day as Crystal Lee went yard for the first time this year, sending a three-run dinger deep over the left field fence to give the Cowgirls a 3-0 lead after two.
The lead held until the bottom of the fifth when Afton Burris upped the margin with a solo home run. Stephanie Hodges then added a second run, drawing a bases loaded walk to send Stephanie Nicholson home for the fifth and final run of the game.
Sarah Seagraves (1-0) earned her first start as a Cowgirl and made it a memorable performance, picking up the shutout while throwing a complete game. Seagraves also fanned six batters and surrendered six hits in the effort.
With the pair of wins, Oklahoma State draws the three seed for the single elimination tournament to be played on Sunday. The Cowgirls will face the loser of Washington-Hawaii at 4 p.m. (CST).
