HONOLULU, Hawaii - Oklahoma State's softball team's quest for the title at the Chevron Paradise Classic fell short on Sunday as the Cowgirls surrendered to sixth-ranked Washington, 3-2, in the championship game.
The Huskies offense came out firing and shortstop Jaime Clark blasted a two-run homer in the top of the first for the early 2-0 advantage.
The Cowgirls narrowed the lead to one in the bottom of the third in a wacky inning featuring four Washington errors. Jade Lindly gained all four bases on errors to score the lone run of the inning.
Oklahoma State then evened the score in the fourth with a long ball from Brooke Siebel, her first of the year.
Both defenses settled in for a long battle, but another home run from Washington in the bottom of the sixth would prove to be the difference. The Cowgirls were unable to find an answer as the Huskies defense prevented Oklahoma State from taking a base in the final two innings.
Sarah Seagraves earned the start in the circle, throwing two innings before being relieved by Lauren Bay. In the final five innings, Bay fanned six batters and surrendered one run on three hits.
Three Cowgirls earned all-tournament honors; catcher Ryan Realmuto, first baseman Stephanie Hodges and pitcher Lauren Bay.
Oklahoma State returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 13, hosting Cowley College for a scrimmage slated to begin at 2 p.m.
