TUCSON, Ariz. - In a classic pitchers duel, Oklahoma State's softball team went head-to-head with Arizona, the second-ranked team in the country, and came out on top, 1-0.
Lauren Bay went the distance and improved to 3-2 on the year. The lefty had an outstanding game from the mound, striking out 15 batters while surrendering just two hits.
It was one of the best performances of Bay's career, bested only by the Nebraska contest last year when she fanned 19 batters in nine innings.
The Cowgirls only hit of the game was a jewel from Jade Lindly, a one-out solo home run in the top of the sixth. It was Lindly's first long ball of the season.
Arizona's lone hit of the game came in the bottom of the sixth but the Cowgirl defense turned in a stellar performance as a Wildcat never advanced past first base.
"It was a team effort and we played great defense tonight," said head coach Margaret Rebenar. "This win was a great confidence booster for the girls and proves that they can play with this level of competition."
Oklahoma State (6-3) returns to action on Saturday, facing New Mexico and Virginia on day two of the Worth Invitational.
