DALLAS, Texas - Two members of Oklahoma State's softball team, senior Lauren Bay and junior Jade Lindly, were named the Big 12 Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday. The pair swept the weekly conference honors after an outstanding weekend at the Worth Wildcat Invitational, including a 1-0 win against defending-national champion Arizona.
Bay fanned 15 batters and gave up just two hits en route to the shutout of second-ranked Arizona in Tucson. The Trail, B.C., Canada, lefty's win marked the first time Arizona lost in a home tournament since Feb. 5, 2000. Bay also posted double-digit strikeouts against Drake, fanning 11 in five innings work. For the week Bay went 3-0 and struck out 30 batters in 15.2 innings work.
Lindly hit .700 for the week and had two game-winning hits in Arizona, both home runs. In the win against Arizona, the Jay, Okla., outfielder had a solo long ball in the top of the sixth. Lindly followed with the game winner for the second consecutive game in the 6-1 win against New Mexico, a two-run dinger also in the top of the sixth.
Oklahoma State (9-3) has a six-game winning streak after finishing the weekend 5-0. The Cowgirls return to action on March 4, hosting UMKC for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
