STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's softball team posted its third shutout of the season Wednesday, blanking Panhandle State, 6-0, in its regular season home opener. The contest was originally scheduled as a scrimmage but both teams agreed to the change prior to the game.
The game started with a bang as Oklahoma State posted three runs in the bottom of the first.
Calli Behmer got things started with a base hit and advanced to second on a Lauren Bay walk. Behmer then stole third and scored when the catcher overthrew the third baseman while attempting to thwart the stolen base attempt. Ryan Realmuto followed with her second home run of the season to bring Bay home and give the Cowgirls a 3-0 cushion after one.
The lead continued to grow in the second when Jade Lindly led off the inning with a walk and scored on a base hit by Behmer. Afton Burris provided the final margin in the third on the Cowgirls' second two-run bomb of the day.
Sarah Seagraves (2-0) threw a one-hitter while picking up her second shutout of the season. The freshman fanned seven batters and walked one in the complete game effort.
Oklahoma State returns to action on Friday, facing Western Michigan and second-ranked Arizona at the Worth Invitational in Tuscon, Ariz.
