Cowgirl Softball Wins Two

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's softball team kicked off the 2003 season with a pair of scrimmages, defeating Southwestern, 8-0, and Northern Oklahoma, 13-0, today at Cowgirl Stadium.
The Cowgirls were not able to get their offense going against Southwestern until the top of the third when they exploded for four runs. Brooke Siebel earned the first RBI of the game, bringing in Megan Carey with a double to left center.
Jade Lindly then followed with a shot to the same spot to score Ryan Realmuto and Siebel. The trend continued with Crystal Lee as her sacrifice fly brought in Lindly for the final run of the inning.
The fourth inning was more of the same as Stephanie Nicholson got the Cowgirls off to a roaring start with a solo home run just over the left field fence. After a pair of outs, the Cowgirls put together a string of four hits to up the margin to eight as Realmuto, Siebel and Lindly all crossed the plate.
On the mound, Lauren Bay and Sarah Seagraves combined for a one-hitter. Bay silenced the Lady Bulldog bats, striking out seven of the nine batters she faced in the first three innings. Seagraves then closed out the game with a pair of strikeouts in the final two innings.
Game two was another offensive show by the Cowgirl, with the team combining for 13 runs on 12 hits including three long balls.
Oklahoma State did not waste any time against the Lady Mavs, taking a commanding 6-0 lead after just one inning of play. WIth runners on first and second, three-hole batter Megan Carey sent a line drive just over the defense to score Nicholson and Ashleigh Tweed.
Carey later scored on an Alliya Anderson single. Two hits and an error later, Siebel, Lindly and Anderson rounded the bases for the final runs of the frame.
The third inning featured the first home run of the game when Megan Carey led off the inning with a solo shot. Burris then led off the third with a dinger of her own and two batters later, Nicholson followed with the third one-run dinger in two innings.
The Cowgirl bats continued to ring true in the fourth, as four runners scored on a string of five consecutive hits and one Lady Mav error to close out the scoring.
Siebel earned the start in game two, striking out four in three innings. Cami Carter then came on in relief in the fourth, surrendering one hit and fanning three batters.
Oklahoma State returns to action later this week when it travels to Hawaii to compete in the Chevron Paradise Classic Feb. 6-9.
